Gearing up for the Oscars? Whether you’re planning a quiet evening on the couch or attending the biggest bash in town, these suggestions will help you be as- to put it in The Social Network terms- “wired in” as you can be.
1. Facebook Connect- have an opinion, quip, or remark that’s simply too witty to share with just your friends in the room? Plug in to Facebook Connect and share it with the world.
2. Oscar.com- it seems obvious (and maybe it is), but the Oscars website is your one stop shop for all things Oscars. For $4.99, enthusiasts can get an “all access” experience offering additional live streams. 3. Twitter- Get your phones ready and prepare to hashtag. If you’re following the Oscars or ABC, double hashtag #ask #oscars to direct questions. MTVnews will be going with #oscars, and Washington Post’s Jen Chaney will be using #oscarspotting. Newly Twittering James Franco is also the man to follow.
4. Apps- There are several apps specifically designed to give you a more interactive experience this year. For example, AppEzzy’s Awards Hero: Oscars Edition gives you the opportunity to read up on Oscar noms, watch trailers, and bet on winners. Also, ABC Digital’s Oscar Backstage Pass offers live video feed before, during, and after the show.
5. People.com- Other than its usual live blogging and red carpet coverage, this site will give you the chance to compete to win a $10,000 prize in “Red Carpet Trivia Live.” The contest will feature rounds of trivia and factoids throughout the Oscars. Why should the celebrities be the only ones who win something that night?
6. Oscar Noms- Food, that is! What is a major TV event without some yummy snacks? Try making dishes themed to fit with Oscar nominated movies, fish n’ chips and tea for The King’s Speech, trail mix and ice tea for 127 Hours, pretzels and beer for The Fighter, and apple martinis, sushi, and Doritos for The Social Network. Mmmmm.
